I struggle with IRC for a number of reasons (eg. different client devices, lack of always-on client, intermittent interest) so I wonder if there is a strategy (or proposal) for mirroring or reflecting some of the IRC goodness over to here?
As someone with sporadic need to interact with the community, I appreciate the asynch and archival benefits of Discourse.

Bridging real-time-chat to a forum like Discourse tends not to work very well - chat is a lot noisier, and people tend to talk in ways that are not very archive friendly (and in fact, perhaps _shouldn’t_ be archived).

That said, there’s other branches of the Kakouniverse that might fit you better - there’s a Discord server that is quite lively, and a Matrix chatroom that I hang out in to answer questions when I can. Both of those can handle different client devices, and have server-side state so you don’t need an always-on client to participate.

Oh, I see what you mean.
Actually, I respect the difference between synchronous chat and long form, so I suppose the Bridge is not such a good idea.
