Simple column selection?

Hi, folks. I’m wondering whether there exists an easier way to do this. How can I do simple column selection with Kakoune? I’ve managed to do it by selecting a number of lines, then search for the start of the line, which selects the start of every selected line, then moving the selection right and left as I want. Is there another way that I might prefer to know about?

This is especially helpful when I do bulkrename inside ranger.
